West Pharmaceutical Raises 2026 Outlook as High-Value Components Sales Jump 20%
West Pharmaceutical Services raised its 2026 sales and profit forecasts on Thursday after third-quarter results beat its own expectations, driven by a nearly 20% jump in sales of its high-value drug packaging components, according to the earnings release it filed with an 8-K.
The maker of injectable drug containment and delivery products now expects full-year net sales of $3.41 billion to $3.42 billion, up from a previous range of $3.345 billion to $3.380 billion. It raised its adjusted diluted EPS outlook to $9.38 to $9.48 from $8.85 to $9.05, and lifted its organic sales growth forecast to 11.3% to 11.6% from 10% to 11%.
Components drive the quarter
Net sales rose 8.7% to $874.5 million from $804.6 million, with organic growth of 11.9%. Diluted EPS jumped 57.3% to $3.02 from $1.92, while adjusted diluted EPS rose 35.7% to $2.66.
The reported figure included a 45-cent benefit from M&A activities, including the sale of the SmartDose 3.5mL product, according to the company's reconciliation tables. Gross margin widened to 40% from 37%.
"I am pleased to report strong third-quarter 2026 results, with net sales and adjusted EPS exceeding our expectations," President and CEO Michel Lagarde said in the release. "Our results were again led by our High-Value Product (HVP) Components business."
In the Proprietary Products segment, net sales grew 12.6% to $728.8 million. HVP Components sales increased 19.7% to $466.7 million and accounted for 53% of company sales.
HVP Delivery Devices sales were flat at $99.1 million but rose 26.4% on an organic basis, which excludes currency effects and the divested SmartDose 3.5mL product. That product contributed $11.8 million in the quarter versus $29.8 million a year earlier, and West said it expects no more SmartDose 3.5mL sales for the rest of the year. Standard Products sales rose 2.9% to $163.0 million.
The West Vantage segment, which provides contract manufacturing, was the soft spot, with net sales falling 7.3% to $145.7 million.
Buybacks and a dividend increase
West repurchased $231 million of stock in the quarter, bringing its year-to-date total to $685 million. Year-to-date operating cash flow was $403 million, and capital expenditures totaled $125 million.
The company also cut its full-year capital spending forecast to $215 million to $220 million from $250 million to $275 million.
On Oct. 19, West's board declared a fourth-quarter dividend of 26 cents a share, an 18% increase from the 22 cents paid in the prior quarter.
Nine-month net sales rose to $2.59 billion from $2.27 billion, and diluted EPS increased to $7.09 from $4.97.
