United Therapeutics authorizes new $2 billion stock buyback
United Therapeutics' board has approved a new buyback of up to $2 billion of the drugmaker's common stock, adding to an accelerated repurchase already underway.
The board approved the program on Oct. 21, and it runs for one year through Oct. 21, 2027, according to an 8-K filed Thursday. The company may buy shares through accelerated share repurchases, open-market transactions, privately negotiated deals or other means, and is not required to buy any minimum amount.
"We have the balance sheet and free cash flow to fund our long-term ambitions and the confidence to act decisively when our own shares represent a compelling investment," Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer James Edgemond said in the press release attached to the filing.
On top of the existing ASR
United Therapeutics already has an accelerated share repurchase in progress that it entered in September 2026 under its prior authorization. That transaction is scheduled to end in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to earlier termination or extension, and will not reduce the amount available under the new $2 billion program, the company said.
Repurchases will depend on alternative uses of capital, market conditions and other factors, and the company can start or suspend buying at any time without notice.
