TTM Technologies plans $400 million AI capacity push across China and Malaysia plants
TTM Technologies is spending more to keep up with AI hardware demand. The printed circuit board and electronics maker said it plans to invest an additional $400 million to expand capacity at four facilities in China and its plant in Penang, Malaysia, according to a regulatory filing Tuesday.
The money comes on top of TTM's previously disclosed commitment to invest $1.2 billion over 2025 through 2029. The company said the added spending is backed by ongoing discussions with long-standing customers that indicate expected demand increases.
A 'rapid ramp' instead of new plants
Rather than build new factories from the ground up, TTM said it will use a brownfield approach: optimizing existing operating space and installing new equipment to bring AI-specific circuit board capacity online faster. The company called it a "rapid ramp" expansion.
The investments will mainly scale TTM's advanced N+M asymmetrical interconnect products, aimed at data center infrastructure providers, hyperscalers and networking customers.
"The rapid growth in demand requires us to make rapid capacity increases across several of our facilities," President and CEO Edwin Roks said in the release, adding that TTM will keep working with customers "to define additional expansions as required."
Chief Operating Officer Jim Walsh said using the existing footprint in China and Penang is meant to shorten "the time between investment and revenue."
What comes next
TTM did not give a timeline for the new capacity or break out the spending by site in the release. It said it expects to provide more commentary for investors on its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, with the date and time to be announced in the coming weeks.
In its cautionary language, the company flagged risks including execution of the investment plan, significant planned capital expenditures and related financing needs, and its dependence on a small number of customers.
