Louisiana-Pacific Q3 Net Income Jumps to $23 Million on Record Siding Sales of $473 Million
Louisiana-Pacific posted record third-quarter siding sales and more than doubled its net income, though weak oriented strand board prices kept its OSB business in the red.
Net sales rose 4.2% to $691 million from $663 million a year earlier, according to the earnings release the company, known as LP Building Solutions, filed with an 8-K on Monday. Net income climbed to $23 million, or $0.32 per diluted share, from $9 million, or $0.13. Adjusted diluted EPS rose 5.4% to $0.39 from $0.37, while adjusted EBITDA was flat at $82 million.
"Siding returned to volume growth in the third quarter and set a new record for net sales," CEO Jason Ringblom said in the release.
Siding carries the quarter
Siding net sales grew 6.8% to $473 million, with average net selling prices up 5% and unit shipments up 2%. Siding adjusted EBITDA edged up to $119 million from $117 million, as $23 million of net price gains and $4 million from higher volumes outweighed a $19 million increase in raw material, freight and labor costs.
OSB net sales rose to $180 million from $179 million. The segment's adjusted EBITDA loss narrowed to $24 million from $27 million, helped by $14 million of lower inventory reserve adjustments, partly offset by lower OSB prices and higher raw material costs.
Over nine months, the picture is weaker. Total net sales fell to $1.93 billion from $2.14 billion, and net income dropped to $76 million from $154 million.
Outlook
For the fourth quarter, LP expects siding net sales of $390 million to $400 million and siding adjusted EBITDA of $80 million to $90 million. It projects an OSB adjusted EBITDA loss of $35 million and consolidated adjusted EBITDA of $30 million to $40 million.
For full-year 2026, the company forecasts siding net sales of $1.66 billion to $1.67 billion, siding adjusted EBITDA of $415 million to $425 million, an OSB adjusted EBITDA loss of $95 million and consolidated adjusted EBITDA of $270 million to $280 million. LP said its OSB figures assume prices stay unchanged from those published on Oct. 30. Capital expenditures are expected to total an estimated $300 million for the year, the company said.
Cash and dividends
Operating activities provided $112 million of cash in the quarter. LP invested $56 million in capital expenditures and paid $21 million in dividends, and ended September with $265 million in cash and cash equivalents.
