J.B. Hunt Q3 2026 earnings: EPS rises to $1.82 as revenue jumps 20% to $3.68 billion
J.B. Hunt Transport Services grew revenue 20% in the third quarter, while operating income edged up just 2%.
The trucking and logistics company reported net earnings of $172.4 million, or $1.82 per diluted share, compared with $170.8 million, or $1.76 per share, a year earlier, according to its earnings release Thursday. Total operating revenue rose to $3.68 billion from $3.05 billion, and revenue excluding fuel surcharges increased 13%.
Operating income rose to $247.1 million from $242.7 million. The company said higher revenue, better productivity and lower equipment storage and facility rental costs were partly offset by higher purchased transportation, driver pay, equipment, insurance and group medical claims expenses.
Intermodal, J.B. Hunt's largest segment, did the heavy lifting. Loads rose 8%, with Eastern network loads up 18%, and segment revenue grew 20% to $1.83 billion. Intermodal operating income increased 18% to $147.5 million, helped by better network balance and lower container storage expense.
Dedicated Contract Services went the other way. Revenue rose 11% to $960 million, but operating income fell 22% to $81.7 million on higher driver, medical claims, insurance and new-business onboarding costs.
Integrated Capacity Solutions swung to $9.6 million of operating income from a $0.8 million loss, as revenue jumped 57% to $434 million on higher volume and revenue per load. Final Mile Services operating income dropped 76% to $1.6 million.
The company bought back about 704,000 shares for roughly $174 million during the quarter and had about $619 million left under its repurchase authorization. Debt outstanding fell to about $1.12 billion from $1.60 billion a year earlier.
