Comfort Systems revenue hits $3.77 billion as backlog swells to $17.8 billion
Comfort Systems USA keeps adding work faster than it can finish it. The mechanical and electrical contractor's backlog climbed to $17.81 billion at the end of September, nearly double the $9.38 billion of a year earlier.
Third-quarter revenue rose to $3.77 billion from $2.45 billion, and net income reached $489.0 million, or $13.91 per diluted share, compared with $291.6 million, or $8.25 a share, a year ago, according to its earnings release filed with an 8-K on Thursday.
Operating cash flow was $1.01 billion in the quarter, compared with $553.3 million a year earlier.
Backlog builds again
Backlog rose $3.8 billion from $14.06 billion at the end of June. On a same-store basis, backlog grew to $17.39 billion from $9.38 billion.
"Relentless demand, together with our competence and reputation, produced sequential backlog growth of $3.8 billion," CEO Brian Lane said in the release. He said the company believes it is well positioned to grow organically through year-end and in 2027.
For the first nine months of the year, net income was $1.30 billion, or $36.94 a share, on revenue of $9.90 billion.
In a separate 8-K the same day, the company said longtime CFO Bill George will retire after the filing of its 2026 annual report, with Chief Accounting Officer Julie Shaeff set to succeed him.
