FedEx taps AutoZone finance chief Jamere Jackson as its next CFO
FedEx named AutoZone's Jamere Jackson as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Nov. 30, according to an 8-K filed Monday. Jackson, 57, succeeds Claude Russ, who has been interim CFO since June 1.
AutoZone said in its own 8-K that Jackson told the company on Oct. 20 he would resign as CFO effective Nov. 25 for a professional opportunity outside the automotive aftermarket. The departure is not related to AutoZone's results or any disagreement over its accounting or reporting, the filing said.
A seasoned CFO
Jackson has been AutoZone's CFO since January 2021. Before that, he was executive vice president and CFO of Hertz Global Holdings from 2018 to 2020 and CFO of Nielsen Holdings from 2014 to 2018, and he held leadership roles at General Electric, according to FedEx's filing. He also serves on Eli Lilly's board.
"Jamere brings a deep understanding of how disciplined financial strategy translates into strong operational performance," FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam said in the company's release.
What FedEx is paying
Jackson will earn a $1 million base salary and receive a $2 million signing bonus paid in two installments, according to the FedEx 8-K. He gets a restricted stock unit award worth $766,000 and stock options valued at $191,500, both vesting over three years.
FedEx is also granting a one-time $5 million special RSU award, vesting over three years, to make up for AutoZone equity awards he will forfeit, the filing said.
AutoZone's next step
AutoZone has started an external search for a successor. Until one is named, Vice President and Controller J. Scott Murphy will serve as principal financial and accounting officer starting Nov. 25.
"I am confident the experienced, deeply tenured, finance and accounting team we have will ensure seamless continuity," AutoZone President and CEO Phil Daniele said in the company's release.
