FirstCash posts record quarter as pawn revenue jumps 28%, lifts dividend 10%
FirstCash Holdings turned in another record quarter as demand for pawn loans stayed strong, and the pawn-store operator rewarded shareholders with a 10% dividend increase.
Third-quarter revenue rose 18% to $1.1 billion, and diluted earnings per share climbed 25% to $2.33, according to the earnings release FirstCash filed with an 8-K on Thursday. Adjusted diluted EPS rose 19% to $2.68 from $2.26.
Net income increased 22% to $101 million, while adjusted EBITDA grew 18% to $213 million.
Pawn demand drives the gains
Revenue and segment income from the company's pawn businesses each grew 28% from a year earlier. Pawn receivables reached a record $908 million at the end of September, up from $788 million a year ago, and the company said every geographic segment posted double-digit gains in same-store receivables and pawn fees.
"Pawn demand remains exceptionally strong," CEO Rick Wessel said in the release.
In the U.S., segment revenue grew 18% and same-store pawn receivables rose 12%, marking the 13th straight quarter of double-digit same-store growth. In Latin America, segment revenue jumped 35% in dollars and 27% in constant currency.
Expansion and cash returns
FirstCash added 14 pawn stores in the quarter, bringing its count to 3,352 locations, and said it still targets closing its acquisition of U.K. pawn operator Ramsdens by the end of 2026, pending antitrust approval. That deal would add more than 175 U.K. locations.
The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.46 a share, up 10%, payable in November. The company repurchased $123 million of stock in the third quarter, taking year-to-date buybacks to $250 million.
For the fourth quarter, FirstCash said it expects continued double-digit revenue growth and operating margin expansion from pawn operations, including low-double-digit growth in U.S. pawn receivables and fees.
