Costco 10-K: paid members reach 84.1 million as fiscal 2027 capital spending plan rises to $7.5 billion
Costco Wholesale ended fiscal 2026 with 84.1 million paid members, up from 81.0 million a year earlier, according to its annual report on Form 10-K filed Oct. 7.
The warehouse club said 42.3 million of those were Executive members, whose purchases made up about 75.2% of worldwide net sales. Including household cards, Costco had 150.4 million cardholders at year-end.
Its member renewal rate was 92.3% in the U.S. and Canada and 89.8% worldwide at the end of fiscal 2026, the filing says. Membership fee revenue rose 11% to $5.907 billion, which Costco attributed to new sign-ups, fee increases and upgrades to Executive memberships.
Warehouses and spending
Costco opened 28 warehouses in fiscal 2026, including three relocations, for 25 net new locations. It operated 939 warehouses worldwide at Aug. 30, 2026.
For fiscal 2027, the company plans to open up to 33 new warehouses, including five relocations. Costco spent $6.435 billion on capital expenditures in fiscal 2026 and intends to spend about $7.5 billion in fiscal 2027, according to the 10-K.
Workforce, buybacks and dividends
Costco employed 355,000 people at year-end, up from 341,000. That included 232,000 in the U.S., 58,000 in Canada and 65,000 in other international markets.
The company bought back 253,000 shares in the fiscal fourth quarter at an average price of $964.62. About $1.115 billion remained under its $4 billion repurchase authorization, which expires in January 2027.
Cash dividends declared in fiscal 2026 totaled $5.54 a share. In April 2026, the board raised the quarterly dividend 13% to $1.47 a share from $1.30.
The 10-K also lists tariffs among its risk factors, saying higher tariffs could hurt results.
