CenterPoint completes $2.62 billion sale of Ohio natural gas utility to National Fuel
CenterPoint Energy closed the sale of its Ohio natural gas utility on Thursday, unlocking $2.62 billion that the Houston-based company says will help fund a larger capital plan. In a Form 8-K and accompanying release, CenterPoint said it completed the previously announced sale of Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, LLC, to National Fuel Gas Company.
The assets include about 5,900 miles of gas transmission and distribution pipeline serving roughly 335,000 metered customers in West Central Ohio, according to the release. CenterPoint said the deal received all required federal and state approvals, including completion of a review by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, and that National Fuel will immediately assume responsibility for serving the former CenterPoint Ohio gas customers.
Chair and CEO Jason Wells said in the release that proceeds will help support efficient funding of CenterPoint $66.7 billion, 10-year capital plan and investments across its core electric and natural gas footprint. The company previously stated that sale proceeds would support investments across its focused regulated utility footprint. After the sale, CenterPoint described itself as serving nearly 7 million metered customers in Indiana, Minnesota, and Texas.
CenterPoint shares last closed Wednesday at about $36.80, down roughly 0.4% on the day and down about 5.0% year to date.
